ElectricKit Advanced Conversion

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

In September 2024, the 'ElectricKit Advanced' was released by the independent manufacturer 'Oilwarm'.

It builds on the existing ElectricKit Classic Conversion System, with some upgrades/tweaks for a huge leap forward in the conversion market.

ElectricKit Features and Prices

ElectricKit Advanced Control Panel

The ElectricKit Advanced System uses a touchscreen display instead of physical dials.

This touchscreen display can be mounted externally if needed, but with the integrated timers and slumber modes, adjustments aren't needed as often as previous versions.

The hotplates are shown at the top of the display. You can tap them to set your target temperate (1-8) then press the power button to turn on/off. On the home screen, it shows the current temperature, as well as the 'set' temperature.

If your hotplates are set above traditional boiling temperature (setting 6) when the lids are closed, it will automatically reduce the temperature after 4hrs. This is a safety feature and massively reduces the risk of repair visits due to accidental damage.

The top oven (traditionally 'roasting') is controlled in a similar way to the hotplates. You can see the current temperature, then tap to adjust and use the power button to turn on/off. It displays the current and target temperature.

Your bottom right hand oven will automatically be around 35% cooler than the top oven temperature. The display shows the current temperature as well as your target temperature if set.

The hotcupboard section (simmering/warming ovens) on our 4 oven ElectricKit models are controlled together. This sets the top left oven temperature. The bottom left oven will sit around 20-30c cooler than the top left oven.

ElectricKit Advanced - The Setup

Standard Hotplates:

RH Hotplate Element: 1400w

LH Hotplate Element: 2200w

Hotplate Upgrades:

Standard Induction: 1600w

Higher Power Induction: 3000w

Radiant Hob: TBC

Standard Ovens:

Top Oven Element: 700w

Middle Oven Element: 1800w

Bottom Oven Element: 500w

4 Oven Hotcupboard Section: 550w

4 Oven Upgrades:

Upgraded Hotcupboard: 1800w

On/Off Warming Plate: TBC

2-Zone Hob Upgrade: 1200w/1600w.

The Hotplates:

Each hotplate element can be any temperature up to 370c - a traditional Aga boiling hotplate is around 325c. These are controlled via settings from 1-8, and can be left at boiling temperature when the lids are closed (although we recommend only using as and when needed). Alternatively, you can upgrade your left-hand hotplate to a modern induction hob, or a radiant hob. The radiant hob is an expandable-zone electric hob.

The Ovens:

Typically, you have three oven elements outside of your ovens - top, middle and bottom. These allow each oven to be controllable in temperature. The largest element is in-between the two ovens. This means that your bottom oven will naturally gain some heat when the top oven is on. Generally, it will be 35% cooler, so if your top oven is set to 220c, the bottom oven will be around 140c. You can boost this bottom oven temperature using the additional 500w bottom element.

The left-hand hotcupboard section (simmering/warming ovens) on 4 oven models are controlled together, via settings 1-8. the bottom left hand oven will fall around 20-30c cooler than the top oven. This whole hotcupboard can be upgraded to allow roasting temperatures, an on/off controllable warming plate, or a 2-zone radiant hob upgrade.

The ElectricKit System is best when used as flexibly as possible, using one oven for day-to-day cooking and the slumber modes if needed. You do have the option of running it 24/7 if you prefer, but your running costs will rise.

ElectricKit Advanced Conversion - Pros and Cons

In line with our business ethos of honesty and transparency, we will always give you the pros and cons for your choice of Aga Cooker or Conversion. Being open about the strengths and potential shortfalls of each option, allows us to manage expectations and give you the absolute best solution for your lifestyle.

Advantages of the ElectricKit Advanced:

  • Established company, manufacturing since 2010s.
  • Large community of users who have converted already.
  • Controllable ovens and hotplates.
  • Fastest heat up times on the conversion market.
  • Automatically schedule oven on/off times.
  • Control remotely via a mobile app.
  • Ability to mount the control panel externally for easy access.
  • See both your target and current temperature of the ovens.
  • Automatic hotplate temperature reduction to reduce the risk of repairs.
  • Hotplate use doesn't affect oven temperatures.
  • For 4 oven models, the hotcupboard element is hidden, so it doesn't reduce oven space.
  • For 4 oven models, the hotcupboard section is controllable, via dial numbered 1-8.
  • Induction and radiant hob upgrades available for faster cooking and minimal running costs.
  • No baffle plate required in the oven (compared to other conversion kits).
  • No excessive smoke or smells on first firing (compared to other conversions).

Disadvantages of the ElectricKit Advanced:

  • Newest version of the ElectricKit (Released 2024).
  • Learning curve with a slight change to traditional cooking style (eg. grilling is best at the top of the bottom oven).
  • The floor of the ovens are hotter than an 'always on' model - a grill shelf may be required if cooking on the floor for long periods.
  • The hotplates can only be left on a reduced heat when the lids are closed (as is the norm with conversion kits).
  • The bottom oven will always automatically run at around 35% cooler than the top oven temperature, due to the element placement.
  • 3 Oven and older models not available.

ElectricKit Advanced - Running Costs

As a rough guide, using a 0.24p per kw tariff, you can expect the below running costs from an ElectricKit Converted Aga Cooker.

Costs will change depending on food cooked, temperature settings and size of room, insulation etc.

Top oven running at 180c for 12hrs per day:

£1.29 per day. Or £9.10 per week.

Hotplate running at simmering 12hrs per day:

0.43p per day, or £3.01 per week.

You can choose to replace your left-hand hotplate with an induction hob for the cheapest hotplate running costs available.

If you're going to be turning your cooker on/off more than, say, three times a day, then we usually recommend using a slumber/baking temperature (180c) in the Roasting Oven 24/7, You can cook most things perfectly, and you can always boost it quickly if you need fierce heat.

ElectricKit Advanced - Electric Specifications

The electric requirements depend on which model and configuration you're looking for. Each electric connection point must be directly next to the aga cooker, not behind. Our unique pre-installation guide has diagrams and specifications inside.

2 Oven ElectricKit:

6.6kW (Standard Config)

1 x 32amp supply.

Supply should be wired using minimum 6mm cable. H07RN-F cable will be used from the supply, into the Aga Cooker.

4 Oven ElectricKit:

7.2kW (Standard Config)

1 x 32amp supply.

Supply should be wired using minimum 6mm cable. H07RN-F cable will be used from the supply, into the Aga Cooker.

4 Oven Upgraded ElectricKit:

1 x 40amp supply.

Supply should be wired using minimum 10mm cable. H07RN-F cable will be used from the supply, into the Aga Cooker.

If you have the 1.6kW induction hob upgrade, you don't need any additional electric points - it ties into the standard ElectricKit control panel.

The 3kW induction upgrade requires a separate plug socket next to the aga cooker, or an upgraded supply (contact us for details).

The radiant hob upgrade uses the same connections as the standard hob, unless you're pairing it with a higher power upgrade (contact us for details).

ElectricKit Features and Prices

ElectricKit Advanced - Venting Options

The ElectricKit Conversion is room-venting to negate the need for an external flue system.

The small vented shroud replaces the normal gas or oil shroud at the back of the top plate, in-between the lids.

A 28mm copper pipe will be connected to the ovens and terminated inside the shroud, which brings the hot air from your ovens into the room.

If you're converting your existing aga cooker, you have two options - keep your existing flue for extracting moisture and cooking smells, or removing the flue and venting into the room.

  • If you vent into the room, you'll notice steam and moisture coming from the vented shroud.
  • If you vent using your existing flue, in windy conditions, heat might be sucked out of the ovens.
  • If you have a 13amp electric aga cooker with an external oven fan, you can choose to add the fan configuration when ordering your conversion.

ElectricKit Advanced - Heat Up Times

The ElectricKit has the fastest oven heat up times on the conversion market.

The below are approximations.

Top Right Hand Oven

Roasting (220c) in 61 mins (from cold).

Baking (180c) in 48 mins   (from cold).

The Bottom RH Oven will naturally conduct heat from the top oven when the top oven is in use (around 35% cooler).

2200w Hotplate (Left):

Simmering Temp in 10 mins (from cold).

Boiling Temp in 13 mins (from cold).

1.4kw Hotplate (Right):

Simmer Temp in 13 mins (from cold)

Boiling Temp in 19 mins (from cold)

Upgraded Hotcupboard:

Baking (180c) in 27 mins (from cold).

Roasting (220c) in 36 mins (from cold).

"ElectricKit Advanced" Hotplate Upgrades

Your "ElectricKit Advanced" system comes with 1 x 2.2kw solid hotplate as standard, and 1 x 1.4kw hotplate, which gives you slightly faster heat up times and a larger design. These can be replaced with either a 2-zone halogen hob, or an induction hob.

Solid Hotplate

  • 2200w.
  • Settings 1-8.
  • Included in Left-Hand Hotplate as standard.
  • Can replace the LH, RH or both hobs.
  • Simmer Temp (setting 4)  in 10 minutes. Boiling Temp (setting 6) in 13 minutes.
  • Automatically reduces to setting 6 if accidentally left higher after 4hrs.
  • Controlled via the digital control panel.

Induction Hob

  • 1.6kw or 3kw
  • Settings 1-5 (1.6kw) or 1-8 (3kw).
  • Instant Single-Zone Induction.
  • Can replace LH only (due to the heat from the ovens).
  • Internal fan to cool during/after use.
  • Controlled via the touch buttons on the hob surface.

'ElectricKit Advanced' Timer

If you're looking to reduce your running costs and set your aga cooker ovens to automatically switch on and off, the ElectricKit Advanced has an in-built timer and remote operation via an app.

Features of the ElectricKit Advanced Timer include:

  • Automatically schedule each oven to turn on or off.
  • Available on the touchscreen, or the mobile app.
  • View your current oven temperatures.
  • Adjust your current oven temperatures.
  • Use a 'rest' or 'slumber' setting in-between cooking periods.
  • Up to 10 set periods per day.

We recommend using fewer on/off periods per day, and using the rest temperatures in-between, similar to the Everhot and the electric Esse Range Cookers. This stops your ovens cooling completely, reducing the risk of rust from condensation, and giving a gentle background heat. This will also reduce the energy needed to power back up, and allow faster heat up times.

The ElectricKit uses the Remote App "Smart Life - Smart Living", available for iOS or Android.
