We have been buying and recycling aga cookers for years! We love nothing more than rescuing old models from the scrap heap and turning them into something beautiful - one of our refurbished models.
We are usually looking for the below models:
Unfortunately, we don't work with Rayburns, Newer Aga Cookers (Total Control, Dual Control etc), or any other type of Range Cooker. We're specialists in the traditional models of Aga Cooker!
Firstly, the enamelled top plate is removed and any insulating blanket on top is disposed of (usually rockwool).
Next, it's hoovering time, with our industrial vacuum removing all of the loose-fill vermiculite inside. There is around 400 Litres of the stuff so it will take a few bags!
The cast iron ovens and ashpit are detached from the front plate, then partially dissembled and bundled into our van.
The rest of the cooker is removed bit by bit, then it's clean up time before we leave!
Dismantling and removing these cookers is a specialist job and requires proper training. They can weigh nearly a ton in weight and unfortunately, others have been gravely injured in the past, trying to remove them without professional help.
It really depends on the model, age, condition and market demand.
The resale value of Aga Cookers isn't as much as first hoped. It is rare that we see a traditional or post-74 model sell for much (if anything) nowadays, with most engineers charging around £500 to remove and dispose of scrap.
FYI - at the time of writing (Nov'23), the scrap value in our area is around £80 per cooker. We prefer to take them into stock and refurbish to give them another lease of life!
On our page linked above (identifying your Aga Cooker), we have a sentance or two on the demand for each one and what to expect price-wise.
If you're looking to get the most money for your Aga Cooker, a private sale may be preferred. You may be waiting a while for a sale, and you'll need to take dismantle and relocation costs into consideration of any asking prices. Dismantle costs alone usually start from £400, depending where you are in the UK.
Usually, between 1.5 and 2hrs. It's not something to be rushed, and we leave plenty of time for packing the van before a thourough cleanup afterwards.
Massively reduce your running costs by turning individual ovens and hotplates on/off, as well as FULL temperature control.
You can keep your Aga Cooker (or refurbish it at the same time!), but upgrade the internal components to make it an efficient, electric model.
Our dismantle services are only available in Scotland.
We are independent and we are not supplied or endorsed by Aga Rangemaster Ltd or Aga Rangemaster Group Ltd.
To pass savings onto you, the parts & accessories we provide are non-genuine or specifically designed alternatives. These are tested, approved by our trained engineers, and are deemed suitable for their specified function.
